Back: Reasons for organizing a party

Elements of Parties

Barbecue:
Especially if you have a large garden, barbecue parties are a cool thing. As the host, you should take care of the meat. Ask your friends to bring side dishes and salads along. Sauces and bread are important as well. Be very careful not to cause any fires outside the barbecue grill. Of course, you have to make sure that there are enough plates and silverware for everyone.

Drinking:
Be sure to have a sufficient selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks ready for consumption. In some communities, people don't drink alcoholic drinks. You should respect that. In any case, you need a variety of sodas. Make sure that none of your guests drinks too much. As a good host, you should feel responsible for the health of your guests.

The beverages should be chilled. You shouldn't forget about ice cubes, citrons, spoons and similar items.

Games:
A good party doesn't need games. However, we recognize that some people like to play party games. Party games may help people to get in touch. That's a good thing especially when your guests don't know each other yet. There are as well some sexy party games, which will make your party hotter. The hottest among them is certainly strip poker. When playing it make sure that your guests feel comfortable. If you are planning some more extraordinary games, you have to inform your friends ahead of the party.

Swimming pool:
A swimming pool is certainly a top argument for visiting your party. Clean the pool before the party begins. Tell your guests to bring their swimming suits with them. When organizing a pool party you can be sure to see some more skin than at other parties. That's the good thing about pool parties.

But be aware! People who got drunk might drown in the pool. So have someone sober ready to watch the pool. After the party their will be a lot of dirt in the pool. Therefore, you'll have to clean the pool once more.

Music:
Music is an important element of almost every party. Be sure to have a sound system ready. Adjust the volume to your guests and neighbors whishes. You should assign the DJ job to one person, which is reliable. This person doesn't have to stand all the time next to the CD player. There are some things you should avoid: Every three minutes one of the guests is switching the CDs because he or she doesn't like the music the pervious person picked. This causes a fast switching between different music styles. After a quarter hour, everybody will have a headache.

Dancing:
If you have sufficiently room, a good music selection and the critical mass of guests, you can as well try to open a dance floor. If you are expecting less than 20 people, it makes not much sense to think of dancing. If the number of girls and boys is well balanced, dancing will bring the most fun. Perhaps you could buy as well some colored bulbs or even a small lighting console. Music has to be suitable for dancing. The selection of music has to be well thought.

DVDs:
At a good party there is no need for DVDs except your planning a party specialized on DVDs. DVD Parties are especially an option when you are planning a smaller party with four to five visitors.

Inviting the right people

The most important factor, which decides if your party will be cool or wack, are your guests. If only boring people show up your party will be boring. Good food or fancy music won't change boring people to a good party crowd. That means that you have to manage the guest list carefully.

If you want to make a flirty party, you have to make sure that there are as many boys as girls. In order to archive that, you have usually to invite some more girls. That's because girls generally reject more invitations than boys do.

You have to invite people that are considered to be cool. Furthermore, you have to tell them that a lot of other people are going to show up. If everybody thinks you party will be boring, you'll get many refuses. Invite people who know each other. Furthermore tell them that they'll have the chance to meet new people as well.

Of course, you have to allow people, which you consider to be cool, to bring some homies along which you don't know yet. People who are less cool shouldn't be allowed to flood your party with their crew. However, don't tell them straight. Find some more eloquent excuses.

Issue the invitations on time. Usually three weeks should be enough. If your friends have to travel a long way to get to your party, you should send the invitations earlier. Approximately one week before the party, you should send your friends a reminder or talk to them. Make clear to them that your party is going to be cool.
